At the Common Dreams conference, a conference for progressive religious thought and practice held in Sydney 11-14 July 2019, participants developed and endorsed a Common Dreams Statement of the Heart, in response to the Uluru Statement from the Heart.  A group of 7 people from St James attended the conference.

The purpose of the Common Dreams Statement is to assist in challenging churches and other bodies to acknowledge not only the land of the Aboriginal Peoples but also their creation spirituality and their right to make a treaty that enshrines their voice in the Australian Constitution.

The Common Dreams Statement can be found below.

Reconciliation Sunday recognised at St. James, Sunday 26th May

Reconciliation Sunday will be recognised at St. James this Sunday 26th May. Our 10:30 a.m. service will commence in the park next to the church in the circle of spotted gums (seating and rugs available for those needing them). We will acknowledge country, and pay respect to the indigenous leaders of our country past, present and emerging; share a prayer; celebrate the beauty of the trees, then enter the church and gather around a symbolic campfire to share music, reflections, prayers and conversation. Reconciliation Sunday remembers Sorry Day and the covenant with the UAICC (Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress) of the Uniting Church in Australia.
