'Dare to Question and to Act'

Welcome to Woden Valley Uniting Church!

We are a progressive, inclusive Christian community, seeking to follow the way of Jesus, striving to build a just world for all, through:

  • hospitality
  • worship which nurtures connections with the sacred, each other and the community
  • engagement with local communities, and
  • advocacy.

The full text of our vision and mission statement can be found here

Brochure - a printable version of our new brochure can be downloaded here.

You are invited to come and explore the Christian faith, within this community, irrespective of your age, race, sexual orientation, gender, circumstance or cultural background. In particular there is no expectation of holding to certain beliefs: the congregation encompasses a  wide range of theological perspectives. You are welcome even if you have not been near a church in a long time or have never been.

On Sundays we normally have

  • a 10 am worship service - in person, with a live Zoom link  - followed by morning tea/coffee
  •  Meditation at 5 pm and Gathering@6 at 6pm - in person or by Zoom.

For more details see the Worship page.

On Friday mornings there is Coffee and Chat. This and other activities are listed on our Groups and activities page; note in particular the discussion/advocacy group Against the Wind, and monthly Wine, Cheese and a Theologian get-togethers.

Church Library

We have an extensive library - some 400 titles - of books available for loan, located in the Brindabella Room. As it incorporates the library of the former Centre for Progressive Religious Thought, there is a large number of books by writers offering different perspectives; however that is only part of the holdings. You can browse the following catalogues:

You can come and browse - and borrow - on Friday mornings when Coffee 'n' Chat is on, after morning services, or after other in person events such as Gathering@6. For other times, contact office.wvuc@gmail.com to find out if the premises are open and the library able to be accessed at the time you wish to drop in.

Our premises at Curtin are available for hire by community groups and commercial organisations (different rates apply) and are a venue for classes, small group meetings and other activities. We welcome enquiries about hiring. For further information see Venue Hire.

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we gather. For thousands of years indigenous people have walked on this land, their country. We honour the wisdom of their elders – past and present – and their continuing culture, including profound spiritual insights.

Woden Valley Uniting Church operates under the Safe Church principles of the Uniting Church of Australia.

We have adopted Synod's Commitment Statement which provides a summary of the Synod’s agreed commitments articulated in its Child Safe Policy.
